In an effort to shed light on the complexities of parenthood, specially for first-time parents, media personality and dancer Zodumo Shange hosted the “Journey with My First Born Child” event in Durban on June 1.
The event brought together a panel of artists, including Linda Sibiya, Vuyo Biyela, Nombuso Gcabashe and Thabile Buthelezi, to share their experiences and insights on co-parenting, relationships and prioritising their children's needs.
This saw a lighthearted confrontation between fathers and mothers highlighting the challenges of co-parenting after a separation, but the discussion also offered valuable takeaways on how to navigate the complexities and prioritise the wellbeing of the child.
Zodumo said she hopes to host the event annually to create a safe space for an open dialogue about parenthood.
“I closed my chapter with my ex-partner after seeing things were not going the way I thought. I then dedicated my love to my child. Moving on doesn’t mean date someone else but find something you will love,” said Zodumo.
“It hasn't been an easy journey but it's been one I am very devoted to.”
Linda also spoke about the importance of making an effort to learn about your children every day.
