As South Africa’s creative economy grows and the entertainment industry evolves, the need for skilled, work-ready professionals has never been greater.

Black Brain Pictures is stepping up to meet the demand.

The award-winning production house, in partnership with Media City Academy, is hosting an open day to celebrate the official launch of the academy on June 21 2025.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Blackbrain Pictures' Nyiko Bilankulu said the open day is billed as a game-changer in local media education.

“Media City Academy is not your average institution. Focused on developing the next generation of storytellers, the academy promise to equip students with future-ready skills that go far beyond the classroom.

“With NQF accredited national certificate programmes on offer, the academy’s unique selling point is its commitment to learning by doing. That means students won’t only be stuck behind desks, they’ll be on real sets, learning in real time”.

From film and television to digital content, students will train in state-of-the-art production facilities, gaining experience through internships on live productions. They'll also work alongside industry veterans and build strong networks to give them a head start in one of the country’s most competitive fields.

“Our aim is to produce graduates who aren’t only qualified on paper, but who walk into the industry with professional credits, real-world skills and the confidence to hit the ground running,” said Black Brain Pictures founder Mandla N.

The open day will offer prospective students and creatives a first-hand look at what Media City Academy is about.
