In the heart of KwaZulu-Natal, where gender-based violence (GBV) statistics remain alarmingly high, a powerful new initiative is stepping in to drive change, restore hope and heal communities.

Esibayeni Day, taking place on July 27 at the Durban Manor Hotel, is more than just a one-day event — it’s a community-driven movement which aims to tackle the deep-rooted crisis of GBV and femicide in the Inanda, Ntuzuma and KwaMashu areas.

The event will feature celebs Ndabe Myeza, Muzi Mthabela, Gugu Mzobe, Indlovukazi Mapule, Mbuso Zulu, Joyce Msomi, Thomas Hadebe and Paul Nzimande.

According to host Gugu Mzobe, Inanda continues to be flagged as one of the country’s GBV hotspots. “We’re not just talking awareness, we’re taking action, healing and empowerment. This is about giving communities the tools they need to respond, recover and rebuild.”

The knowledge-sharing session is designed to unpack the intergenerational trauma that continues to scar families in the province, particularly children and youth. It also aims to equip educators, community leaders and faith-based organisations with practical tools to intervene and support victims.

“There can be no healing without justice and no justice without community,” Gugu added.
