Model and former businesswoman Sonia Booth has spoken candidly about her divorce from former Bafana Bafana soccer star Matthew Booth.

In November 2022 Sonia took to her social media timeline to accuse Matthew of infidelity, sharing receipts from Valentine's Day 2022 when the alleged affair began. While Matthew previously denied the allegations, he's since gone public with his new girlfriend Bongani.

After her interview with Relebogile Mabotja on Showmax's Untied, where she opened up about her high-profile split and her journey towards healing, Sonia shed light on why she shared her story.

What do you hope women take away from your story?

I want for them not to believe the façade of a happy and wholesome life just by observing from the outside — for them not to envy. You want the greener grass? Better have the stomach for the amount of manure it comes with.

Has sharing your story played a role in your healing process?

It has. Sharing my story is part of my journaling process and journaling heals.

Why do you feel it’s so important for women to have honest conversations like this?

It’s important for women to have these conversations because social media has unearthed phoney and pretentious behaviours. We need to talk about real lives and daily struggles behind our smartphones. The lives without the filters. The days when you don't have the strength to adult, where you just want to be left alone. Such honest conversations remind you to check yourself. I say: till it happens to you.

How can women better support each other through difficult times?

Women can support each other by being there for each other, listening with veneration and not judging. Don't tell me how to handle a situation because when faced with it, you will deal with it in a way you could never comprehend.

Why do you think people should watch Untied?

I feel like people need to watch because they might pick up red flags I probably missed in my life, then hopefully save themselves misery and heartache.
