In a powerful display of unity and service, Sony Music Africa and a star-studded line-up of artists joined forces with the Scorpion Kings Live With Friends team to celebrate Mandela Day at the Thuthuzela Aid Community Centre in Alexandra.

Led by amapiano heavyweights DJ Maphorisa and Mlindo The Vocalist, the initiative brought together a diverse group of artists — including Ftears, Sweet Lemonade, Duppy, LeeArt, Tracy, Nicole, Bontle Smith, Lastborn, Stakev, Nkulee501, Acutedose, Djy Vino, Mdu aka TRP, Kopzz Avenue and Njilour — all of whom took time out from rehearsals for the upcoming Scorpion Kings Live With Friends mega concert at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.

Honouring the 67-minute Mandela Day tradition, the team rolled up their sleeves and got to work — scrubbing, painting, preparing meals and sharing laughter with children from the community. The visit wasn't just about giving time; it also included generous donations of essential supplies such as baby diapers, non-perishable food, stationery, nursery mats and hygiene items.

“This day is about love, service and humanity,” said DJ Maphorisa. “It’s a reminder that no matter how busy we are, we must always give back. Spending time at Thuthuzela allows us to walk in Tata’s footsteps and show these kids that they are seen, valued and loved.”

Sony Music Africa, a key driver behind the initiative, reaffirmed its commitment to using music as a force for good. “We believe in the power of artists to inspire real change,” a spokesperson said. “This is about more than Mandela Day — it’s about building a culture of care and active citizenship.”
