Acclaimed house music producer DJ Chymamusique has been hospitalised and is fighting for his life in ICU after a car crash that claimed the life of fellow artist DJ Poizen.
The news has sent shock waves through the South African entertainment community, with fans and industry peers expressing their heartbreak and support on social media. According to close sources, DJ Chymamusique was en route to a planning session for his upcoming Ecue Men’s Camp & Retreat when the accident occurred. The conference, originally scheduled for later this month, has been put on hold indefinitely.
The Ecue Men’s Camp & Retreat, a brainchild of DJ Chymamusique, was set to run from September 19 to 21 in Clarens, Free State. The initiative was close to his heart, aiming to provide a safe and transformative space for men aged 23 to 65 to explore critical issues such as mental health, relationships, fatherhood and emotional wellbeing.
“This isn’t just a camp, it’s a movement,” Chymamusique said in a previous interview. “Men also need a place to heal. We carry so much and it’s time we start talking about it.”
Despite the postponement, the mission behind Ecue remains more relevant than ever. The retreat was set to include:
- mental health workshops led by industry professionals;
- open conversations about anger management, emotional expression and trauma;
- dialogues on relationships and fatherhood, encouraging vulnerable and honest exchanges;
- discussions on social issues such as crime, substance abuse, gender-based violence and gender dynamics; and
- community activities including motivational talks, live music, local food, business networking, hiking and a flea market.
