South Africa’s Afrosoul boy band 047 are back to serenade fans with their latest release, a soulful single titled Ekhaya.
Known for their rich harmonies and heartfelt storytelling, the Eastern Cape trio again deliver a captivating blend of African rhythmic elements and smooth R&B undertones wrapped in a message that resonates with the soul.
Made up of Ngcali Nundu, Lihle Baleni and Sihle Mdaka, the group will release Ekhaya on September 12 under Nova Sounds, the record label helmed by award-winning artist Vusi Nova.
Rooted in their Xhosa heritage, the song title Ekhaya translates to “home”, a theme the group explores sonically and lyrically. With their velvety vocals and moving delivery, the single speaks to the universal longing for a place of belonging, not just physically but spiritually and emotionally.
“As a group we go through different experiences, hence our songs speak to different people. The song Ekhaya is a true reflection of this statement because it reflects home in different definitions, allowing listeners to interpret or relate to the song how they receive it,” said Sihle.
Ngcali added: “We all go to our places of work, which are sometimes far from home, and we face hardships, struggles and tough times, but the moment you go home you feel refreshed and happy again.”
Beyond the comfort of family and familiar surroundings, the song carries a spiritual message offering hope to those who may not have a traditional home to return to.
“The song also touches on those who have no parents. It encourages them to find a home in the house of the Lord or in God. This will bring you closer to home and we can only hope they enjoy it,” Lihle said.
