This year marks 40 years of Mango Groove in the music industry and to celebrate the milestone they have a special rollout planned for their supporters.
They're starting off with The Mango Groove 40th Anniversary Concert: Memories and Moments, following their sold-out anniversary concert at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden in Cape Town in January.
Their upcoming concert at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden in Johannesburg on Sunday will take their fans down memory lane as they perform their greatest hits, adding unique touches and surprises exclusive to the Jozi edition.
“Kirstenbosch was such a special and moving show for us,” lead singer Claire Johnston said.
“The response was overwhelming and affirmed that this is something we had to bring home to Jozi. After considering many venues, we knew the Walter Sisulu Gardens was the perfect choice: family-friendly, stunningly beautiful and ideal for a day under our blue African skies.
“This isn’t just a concert; it’s a moving celebration of our country and the journey we’ve all shared. It’s about joy, connection and the power of music to bring people together.”
After the concert, Mango Groove fans can expect a feature-length documentary film, Special Stars, a 13-part docudrama series titled The Groove, showcasing the band’s early days, and a musical called Gladlands, co-created with legendary playwright Paul Slabolepszy, featuring new Mango songs and iconic hits.
“We still can’t believe it’s been 40 years. This is a celebration of Mango Groove, yes, but more than that. It’s a celebration of South Africa, its people and the journey we’re all still on together.”
