Top graduates from previously disadvantaged backgrounds were honoured for their outstanding academic performance at the fifth JB Marks Education Trust Fund Awards which took place at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg.

The awards are aimed at acknowledging excellence in students from under privileged backgrounds who have been granted a bursary by the Trust Fund. 

“There is no easy way to achieve success unless you apply yourself to the task at hand, and all of you here tonight have done just that,” said Simphiwe Nanise COO Mineworkers Investment Trust (MIT).

The 2014 winners:

  • Lebogang Portia Moraba, is the shining star of the 2014 JB Marks Awards. She was honoured with all three Awards.
  • Muano Musuthu was presented with three awards. 
  • Sicelo Ncamiso Masuku also received two awards, the JB Marks Merit Award and the JB Marks Course Specific Award after gaining 21 distinctions while completing his tertiary education at North-West University where he studied Chartered Accounting
  • Noluvo Yvonne Hodana won the JB Marks Merit Award.

Former South African president Kgalema Motlanthe was awarded with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the ceremony.
