Photobomb beat vape, preload and al desko to become 2014 Word of the Year, Collins English Dictionary said.

Photobomb, hijacking a snap being taken by someone else, came into the language six years ago but is included in the dictionary only this year.

It crept in through Hollywood stars intruding on each other's photographs at red-carpet events.

To vape is to inhale on an electronic cigarette while preloading is saving money by drinking at home before going out and buying more alcohol at a club or other commercial venue.

Another runner-up, al desko, means to dine in at one's work desk, usually for lunch.
