"Auto racing, bullfighting and mountain climbing are the only real sports," said Ernest Hemingway. "All others are games."

No doubt the great man, if he were still alive, would be pleased to see the back of the World Cup because its passing sees South Africa's classic-racing drivers back on track after a lengthy two-month break.

The comeback begins on Saturday at Phakisa Freeway where round five of the Execuline Historic Tour will thrill fans of vintage racing metal.

As you've come to expect, I'll be giving it horns in my Times Racing Mustang in the hotly contended Etana Legends of the 9-Hour class that entertains the crowds with some of the closest on-track scraps you'll see in the country.

You'll also be able to catch f earsome race veterans Ben Morgenrood and Willie Hepburn take each other on from behind the wheels of their Trans-Am racing saloons.

Gates open at 9am and entrance is free.
