Limpopo police say two women, both in the fifties, were slightly injured when a plane they were travelling in crashed after take-off. The incident happened at Louis Trichardt airstrip, far north of Limpopo.

It is believed the plane failed to gain altitude moments after it took off.

Eyewitnesses allege they saw the plane coming to a standstill a distance from the airstrip, near Tshikota settlements.

Police captain Maano Sadiki said the duo sustained minor injuries and were rushed off to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Civil Aviation Authority spokesman, Kabelo Ledwaba said, “A total of 11 accidents have been reported in the month of July, while a total number of 65 accidents were filed in between January and June this year”.

This brings the number of plane crashes in South Africa to 76, excluding those that go unreported.
