"A throng of 4000 workers will converge at Jarhaman Hall, Korsten, this morning to march and hand over a memorandum of demands to tyre manufacturers' ruling oligarchy," said Eastern Cape National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) spokesman Mphumzi Maqungo.
Maqungo said the workers were demanding a 10 percent salary increase for the next three years.
"So far the employer has nine percent for 2010, 7.5 for 2011 and 12, on the table."
Workers were expected to hand over their memorandum at the offices of Firestone, Continental and Goodyear, Maqungo said.
"This march forms part of the strategy to exert pressure [on] the captains of the tyre manufacturing industry to accede to workers' demands for improved conditions of employment and decent wages."
