Accomodation stats rise

Total income for the accommodation industry in August 2010 increased by three percent compared with August 2009, Statistics SA said.

For the three months ended August 2010 total income for the accommodation industry increased 26.7 percent compared with the three months ended August 2009.

The Pretoria-based agency said income from accommodation in August 2010 increased 1.1 percent compared with August 2009.

For the three months ended August 2010, income from accommodation increased by 39.5 percent compared with the three months ended August 2009.

"This increase was due to an increase of 3.3 percent in the number of stay unit nights sold and an increase of 35.0 percent in the average income per stay unit night sold during the same period."

The number of stay units available in August 2010 increased by 2.5 percent compared with August 2009.

For the three months ended August 2010, the number of stay units available increased by 2.8 percent compared with the three months ended August 2009.

Statistics SA said the number of stay unit nights sold in August 2010 decreased by 4.3 percent compared with August 2009.

For the three months ended August 2010, the number of stay unit nights sold increased by 3.3 percent compared with the three months ended August 2009.
