The rand was steady in holiday-thinned trade on Monday morning‚ with the dollar slightly weaker.

Against the euro the rand was at R16.3884 from R16.3689 previously.

The euro was at $1.0875 from a previous close of $1.0855.

Barclays Research says‚ barring any more shocks‚ the stage is set for a further year-end relief rally by the rand amid extremely illiquid holiday markets.

Its year-end forecast for the local currency is R14.50/$.

The dollar has been broadly stronger in recent days after the US Federal Reserve increased interest rates last week.
