EVERY vote cast is a vote of approval for a constitution under which the winning party takes all the power.

It provides hardly any checks and balances or accountability in how this power is exercised.

The obvious result is cronyism and corruption at every level of government, which is precisely what we have seen and will continue to see, irrespective of who wins.

This once-every-five-years election is nothing other than a glorified party popularity contest - to call it democracy is a crime.

Our Constitution was written by and for politicians, and not with an eye to the needs and concerns of the public. None of us had any say in choosing the kind of government we' d like and the accountability it should be subject to. - Allan Sztab, by e-mail
