If you're in the fashion know, you will be aware that contrasting fabrics and unusual cuts are big this year.

And, if you're one of those cognoscenti who wears nothing less than what's hot off the catwalk, you'll want to flock to Gucci at Nelson Mandela Square (011 784 2597) or the V&A Waterfront (021 421 8800) as the new spring/summer collection by the lux label under the creative directorship of Frida Giannini has just arrived. It's taken a while for the label to climb back after the departure of Tom Ford, but we take our Fedora off to Giannini for finally coming into her own and we particular like the collection's sexy athleticism.

Limited Edition

Forget soccer players, it seems we've been bombarded with supermodels like Iman and Alek Wek of late. Well, now you can get your hands on the same top the latter is wearing on the cover of the latest issue of ELLE SA. The tee adorning the Sudanese goddess on her second visit to SA (remember how she tripped last year at the Arise Fashion Awards) is now on sale at 10 Woolworths stores around the country. The sequined heart piece from the Christopher Strong label sells for R350 a pop.

New Online

If you're a new convert to online shopping, then hopefully you will get an invitation to join the latest local retail portal, www.36boutiques.com, which offers "exclusive designer items at significantly discounted prices". The portal operates a little differently to other websites in that it features a sale event every week, with customers given just 36 hours to buy the specials on offer.
