The much-anticipated Survivor South Africa: Maldives starts tonight on M-Net.

Nine celebrities and 10 members of the public have chosen to give up their comfortable lives to face hardship in the wild for 27 days.

The castaways will compete for R1-million and the title of Ultimate Survivor in what promises to be an exciting season.

Local versions of the US reality show are broadcast in 40 countries, but this is the first time that a season will be filmed in the Maldives.

Nico Panagio is, once again, the host of Survivor South Africa.

On the island, there'll be a mix of interesting personalities, such as former Idols finalist Jacques Terre'Blanche, actor Hykie Berg, model and actress Carmel Fisher, actress Bonnie Henna, TV presenter Roxy Burger and model and actress Vanessa Haywood.

The ordinary faces include biokineticist Letshego Moshoeu, professional rugby player Lukhanyo Nontshinga, lawyer Sean September and engineer Tejan Pillay.
