Volkswagen Group SA has reached a milestone by exporting 100000 new generation Polos.

Managing director David Powels and production director Tom du Plessis, together with senior management and production staff, celebrated the event at their Uitenhage plant last week.

The Polo has scooped many international awards since its introduction in 2009, including the titles of European and World Car of the Year.

It is a finalist in the South African Car of the Year competition.

Exports of the Polo to right-hand drive countries commenced towards the end of 2009.

The vehicle's key markets are the United Kingdom, Ireland, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Cyprus and Malta.
