The KwaZulu-Natal Inland Cricket Union's annual schools night league kicked off this week.

The Sunfoil Primary and Secondary School Challenge started on Tuesday and ends on October 27, allowing cricketers the opportunity to showcase their talent at a world-class facility, the Pietermaritzburg Cricket Oval.

The eight primary school teams taking part in the challenge are Merchiston Prep, St Charles Prep, Pelham Primary, Cordwalles Prep, Winterton Prep, Sweetwillow Invitational XI, Laddsworth Prep and the KZNICU Invitational XI (Sunfoil XI).

The eight secondary school teams are Alexandra High School, Carter High, Voortrekker High, Weston High, Howick High, Treverton High, KZNICU Invitational XI (Sunfoil XI) and Wartburg High.

Union spokesman Koushik Maharaj said on the final day of the challenge there will be enter- tainment and prizes to be won.

"There will also be prizes for schools that bring in the most supporters, and for spectators in the stadium."

He also urged community organisations, schools and sporting organisations to place their history into a time capsule during the Sunfoil Schools Night League.

"This is a way of remembering the past and the present and being able to inform the future. The capsule will be sealed on November 16 2011 and re-opened on November 16 2060," said Maharaj.
