A finalist in this year's Car of the Year competition, the Citroën DS4, is expanding its range, andis now also available with an automatic gearbox.

The 1.6 litre four-cylinder engine is the same as in the manual version, but mated to the six-speed automatic gearbox, the auto DS4 produces figures of 120kW and 240Nm.

Although it is by no means a hot-hatch, it does return respectable figures of 9.3 seconds for the 0-100km/h sprint, while a claimed 212km/h is more than ample at the top end.

Developed in conjunction with the BMW group, the engine has been widely acclaimed and its combined fuel consumption figure of 7.7 litres per 100km is proof that it is indeed thrifty.

Citroën is never shy when it comes to design and the growing trend of having handles hidden in the frames can be found on the DS4.

This helps with the flowing lines of the body.

The DS4 THP 160 Sport Auto is priced from R313900 and comes with a three-year, 100000km warranty.

An optional five year/100000km warranty extension is available.
