A 93-year-old woman of Florida in the US has parked her beloved "Chariot" for the last time after clocking up nearly 930000km behind the wheel in 48 years.
Rachel Veitch bought her 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente in February 1964 for $3289.
"I am legally blind, so I can no longer drive my lovely Chariot," she told Fox News.
"They don't have to take it away, I wouldn't dream of driving that car again."
The car outlasted three marriages and 18 battery changes.
"When I buy gas, I write down the mileage, the date and how many miles per gallon I got," she said in 2009. "I've never been a destructive person and I've just taken care of everything, except my husbands."
Veitch said she plans to sell her vehicle after it appears in an antique car show in the state of Wisconsin .
Giving it to her family was not an option, she said.
"They couldn't take care of it like I did."
Veitch, a former nurse, has four children, nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Veitch said she will consider selling the car to Jay Leno, the US talk-show host, who is a well-known classic car enthusiast. " I'm wondering if he's interested," she said.
Irv Gordon, a science teacher of Long Island, New York, set the world record for most miles travelled in his 1966 Volvo P1800 at 1.69-million miles in 1998. By now it is estimated he has travelled nearly three million miles (4.82-million kilometres) in the car.
