Frugal cars fly off auction floor

The recent massive hike in fuel prices, talk of another hike next month and the looming threat of e-tolling in Gauteng are driving demand for fuel efficient cars at auction, says Clive Lazarus of Park Village Auctions.

"We've witnessed a definite shift away from 'fuel guzzlers' towards more economical cars," said Lazarus.

"People are genuinely concerned about the rising cost of living and are seeking to cut costs across the board."

He says family friendly hatchbacks, in particular, are very much in vogue and don't stay long on the auction floor. A number of these types of vehicles will be available at PVA's next car auctions.

The first car auction will take place on Monday at the Bank Disposal Centre in River Horse Estate, Durban, at 6.30pm. An assortment of repossessed cars, salvaged vehicles and other assorted items, will go under the hammer at this auction.

Another PVA car auction takes place on Tuesday at Benrose which will feature a similar collection of stock to that going under the hammer in Durban.

A third PVA car auction is set to occur on Wednesday at the Bank Asset Disposal Centre on Prolecon Road in Johannesburg South at 10.30am.

In addition to a few hatchbacks, a number of executive cars, a few trucks and non-runners will also be available at this auction.

Viewing for both auctions will take place the day before each is due to take place.
