HER OWN VOICE: Faith Nsa says setting up Faith History Productions was the best thing she has ever spent money on Picture: SUPPLIED

Nigerian TV presenter Faith 'History' Nsa hosts 'Rolling with Faith History' on the DStv channel Africa Magic. She speaks to Lucky Biyase about how she spends her money

Are you a saver or a spender?

Spender, but trying to repent. I often get buyer's remorse and return stuff when I've overspent.

What is Your biggest extravagance?

My daughter, Tenley. It never ends - it's the school fees, then the clothes, then the other expenses of raising a child in today's world.

What is the best thing you've spent money on in your life?

Setting up my production company, Faith History Productions, because it's an investment in my family and my future.

Do you invest in shares or other assets?

I used to invest in shares until the markets crashed in 2008. Now I'm slowly getting back into the game, with more perspective.

What local goods and services do you miss most when you are abroad?

Whenever I travel, I'm always super-busy, so when I get back I make sure to pamper myself at my favourite beauty spa - Placecol. I especially miss my favourite South African wines.

How do you prefer to pay for things - cash or card?

I use cash for as many purchases as possible. I aim to stay out of debt.

Do you tip easily or do waiters and waitresses have to work hard with you?

When a waiter goes above and beyond, I like to do the same, so I tip.

Have you ever been really short of cash?

Yes - when I was at the University of Baltimore, I had to work part time and pay the balance on my school fees every semester. Even though I was on a scholarship, it was never enough.

What was the most lucrative job you have ever done? What did you do with the cash?

I worked in a big advertising agency in New York - it gave me the opportunity to create a new life for myself in SA.

Do you give money to beggars?

I do, but I prefer to give food and clothing items.

What is the most important lesson you have learnt about money?

It's a resource that needs to be put to good use so that it can grow.

Do you have a financial adviser, or do you look after your own finances?

I look after my own finances and seek advice from experienced professionals I trust before making major financial decisions.

What did your childhood teach you about money?

My father made us account for every penny we spent - so I learnt about budgeting.

What is the best money advice you have received?

My mom always says be free with giving - you will receive it back tenfold. It's the law of the universe.

If you won R10-million, what would you spend it on?

I would invest some of it in my business because I am big on entrepreneurship. I'd also invest some of it in someone else's dream, save some of it and go on a shopping spree with my friends. Then I would take my family and friends around the world on the cruise of a lifetime.

What place in the world would you most like to own a house or apartment in?

New York City.

What place in the world could you never be paid enough to live in?

Antarctica, or some other cold climate. Imagine just being cold every day of your life.
