Poet Lebo Mashile performs on Wits campus as part of the annual Silent Protest in solidarity with survivors of rape and sexual violence.

The unique march was founded by Rhodes University students eight years ago, and was combined with Drama For Life which uses theatre to advocate action on social issues including sexual violence and HIV/Aids.

Mashile said she is excited by the new generation of activists and feminists.

Mashile says it's not just our silence, but the silence of families, the justice system and the courts when a victim's sexual history is dissected, that must be addressed, instead of that of a perpetrator. BDLive
