Poor visibility didn't stop some social media users from enjoying the supermoon.
Creative Twitter and Instagram users shot 'supermoon' images using an array of stand-ins for the celestial orb.
With their crater-like texture, tortillas proved to be a popular choice as a moon substitute. While one Instagrammer, @muffypants, successfully used celeriac, we were surprised not to spot any moons made out of cheese.
Others moon impersonators included a pot plant, a printed cutout and a chandelier.
