Racehorse owner, Heather Nieuwenhuizen, has been fined R20 000 by the National Horseracing Authority after pleading guilty to making racist comments to a member of the public at the Turffontein racecourse in southern Johannesburg in May.

At least R15 000 of her fine was suspended for a year provided she is not found guilty of a similar offence.

Nieuwenhuizen, who is the part-owner of four racehorses, has the right to appeal against the penalty imposed.
