Siyanda Xulu has signed a four-year contract with Kaizer Chiefs and will be unveiled as the club's main attraction of the off-season transfer activity on Tuesday. Club boss Kaizer Motaung confirmed Xulu's arrival and dismissed reports of an imminent departure of defender Mulomowandau Mathoho. The centreback from KwaMashu, north of Durban, sealed his move to the reigning Premiership champions on Friday. The 23-year-old arrived at the club's Naturena Village headquarters while the Sunday Times was interviewing Motaung, who referred to Xulu as a comeback kid."He is one of the players we lost through former coaches. He was in our development structure."When we felt he was ready to be promoted to the first team, Muhsin [former Chiefs coach Ertugral] said he was too skinny," revealed Motaung."Sundowns stole him from us. We still have his youth contract. He is a comeback kid."Motaung poured cold water on reports linking Mathoho to a move to Belgium.story_article_left1"Mathoho is going nowhere. He is recovering from a toe injury. I read about Belgium in media reports. George Lebese has extended his contract by three years."Mathoho starred alongside Pa Gaxa, Tsepo Masilela and Tefu Mashamaite in the league's stingiest defence last season.A former Mamelodi Sundowns starlet with four Bafana Bafana caps, Xulu returns to South Africa after spending three years in Russia, where he played for FC Rostov, a club he joined from Sundowns in 2012.The highly regarded Xulu whose cool head, composure on the ball and timely tackles has previously caught the attention of European aristocrats Barcelona and English side Arsenal, spent a week each with the Catalans and the Gunners in May and September of 2010.But he didn't succeed to attract an offer from either side.He is among a host of new signings Amakhosi will announce at the press conference on Tuesday.Chiefs will also confirm central defender Daniel Cardoso as another addition to fortify a rearguard that saw the departure of Mashamaite. The 26-year-old comes in from Free State Stars and will reunite with Chiefs' new coach Steve Komphela, who coached him at Stars.Chiefs have also tried to bring on board South African international Sibusiso Vilakazi, but were fobbed off by Bidvest Wits."The player approached us a couple of weeks ago, but Jose Ferreira (Wits chief executive) told Bobby [Motaung, Chiefs football manager] that Vilakazi was not for sale."In addition, Amakhosi wanted midfielder Cole Alexander from Polokwane City.story_article_right2"In the case of Cole," explained Motaung, "Bobby made an approach, but their chairman Johnny Mogaladi said the player was not for sale."The Chiefs chairman said the door was not closed on the trio of Itumeleng Khune, Mandla Masango and Mashamaite who left after not agreeing terms of a new contract with the club."We have not heard anything from Khune. With Masha it has been very quiet."I can't say the door is closed, but if we've made signings, people can read that the way they want."Bobby Motaung said that Masango has sent three different representatives to the club."First it was Tim Sukazi who made contact on Mandla's behalf. Then it was Steve Kapeluschnik and the third person was an attorney from a law firm," said Bobby."All of them say he wants to talk. We don't know what it is about. It is up to him. He knows where to find us."bbk@sundaytimes.co.za..
