Bafana moving on from striking woes?

Are Bafana Bafana taking the right steps towards ending their goal scoring woes? 

Last Friday's 3-1 win in Angola would suggest so.

A lack of quality strikers has long been considered one of the major problems in the national team. 

Coach Shakes Mashaba has long said that the problem needs to be addressed way before international level, but midfielder Bongani Zungu says there was encouragement in the fact that both strikers were on the score-sheet in Benguela. 

"As a team we’re very happy that the two strikers scored. They’ve got a lot of quality … they’re two different players and we’re happy that they managed to follow instructions from the coach," said Zungu.

"Our coach always emphasises that they should run in behind … do criss-cross running. Gabuza’s goal … he made a run … we’re all very happy about the goals."

Tokelo Rantie and Thami Gabuza have been named in the starting line-up once more for Tuesday night's second leg in Durban, and with Mashaba having been vocal on his side's willingness to attack, more goals from his finishers would go a long way towards suggesting that Bafana are taking the right steps towards eradicating their striking issues.

Kick-off on Tuesday is at 19:00.
