With time so short at the moment, I've developed an awful habit - reading multiple books simultaneously. I've just finished Peter Harris's Birth, which should be mandatory for anyone born in this country post-1994. It made me realise how we teetered on the brink and came so close to imploding.

I'm getting married in two weeks' time, so have been reading Wedding Babylon: Confessions of a Wedding Planner by Imogen Edwards-Jones - purely for amusement purposes and to scare myself a little. It's sheer escapism and I take great joy in laughing at the ridiculousness of the industry. I've also spent months dipping in and out of Gregory David Roberts's spectacular novel Shantaram and am dying to finish it. It is so beautifully written.

Peter Godwin's The Fear: The Last Days of Robert Mugabe is sitting on my bedside table screaming to be read. I'm a fan of southern African nonfiction and my book shelves are stocked with local releases.
