City living often means adjusting to living in small spaces, which can deter you from having friends over. But it doesn’t have to be a problem. Get compact-clever with the following tips, and entertain your friends and family with ease

Double up

When shopping for furniture for small spaces, always consider purchasing dual-purpose items, such as a display rack that you can turn into a server to keep your guests’ drinks at hand; or storage ottomans that can easily be moved to create additional seating.

Move it, move it

Re-arranging your space can give you more room for entertaining. Move out unnecessary furniture that you will not need when your guests arrive, or find creative ways to use what you can’t move. Depending on the nature of the gathering, you can keep things informal by allowing guests to get cosy around your coffee table, or set out a small dinner table for an evening of fine dining.

Lay it out

When hosting friends and family, a buffet is an easy way to allow guests to serve themselves and mingle. When preparing a buffet, always try to stack the food vertically, as that creates more space. Your cake and cupcake stands will come in handy for this.
