17 May 2015 - 02:00 By Kholeka Kumalo

Mimi Xu, style.com's culture and lifestyle contributor and well-known DJ Misty Rabbit, stopped over in South Africa to get the Prada party started at the official store launch earlier this week. We chatted to Xu about a few of her favourite things What brings you to SA? I arrived this morning [Tuesday May 12 2015] in Johannesburg to DJ at the Prada opening event tonight. Very excited! What outfit makes you feel your best when you DJ? I usually like to wear comfortable shoes when I play as I have to stand up for a few hours. My outfit depends on the mood of the day, really. How would you define your style? Tomboy with an occasional sprinkle of disco dust.Favourite places to shop? I shop more online as I travel so much and I really hardly have time to go shopping.story_article_left1Favourite fashion designers? So many, but to name a few: Prada and Miu Miu are my top two favourites. Then comes Céline, Acne Studios, Junya Watanabe, Hood by Air, Lanvin, Rick Owens, Saint Laurent and two of my friends' brands that I love, 1205 (London-based) and ADEAM (New York-based). Easy-to-wear clothes with a good aesthetic with nothing contrived is what I go for. I'm really into sweatshirts, so I launched my own collection of luxury sweatshirts a month ago called Sleeve Nation with my Stockholm-based art director friend Stina Daag.Top three go-to party-starter tracks? For here in Johannesburg, I could be opening with few of my favourite South African tracks: Miriam Makeba's Pata Pata, Harari's Party and Hugh Masekela's Afro Beat Blues.Who's on your ultimate guest list to DJ for? Having music lovers and people who want to have fun are my favourite kinds of guest. Rather than whether they are famous, it's really about the festive spirit I want on the dance floor.Best gig you've ever played? A few months ago I played at the big Pradasphere exhibition opening in Hong Kong after Lorde's live concert. It was a lot of fun.Wildest party you've ever attended? Double Club in London. It was a double cultural experience orchestrated by Miuccia Prada and contemporary artist Carsten Höller in the form of a six-month pop-up restaurant and nightclub celebration of Congolese and Western cultures. I played at the closing party after Bryan Ferry's concert. It was a mad project.I'd sell my soul to . . . meet and make a track with Hugh Masekela...
