At the end of February The Dutch closed its doors for a week while the team set to work bringing a new face to this much-loved Durban establishment. And when the doors reopened in early March, it was absolutely worth the wait.

A reimagined space

The Dutch is an elegant venue that’s become a must-stop on the Durban nightlife scene. Its clever location adjacent Umhlanga’s “village” makes it a great little pit stop for starting your night out, or ending it off. But the reimagined The Dutch takes this one step further, offering a full evening’s entertainment and impeccable dining. Elegant decor, crisp tablecloths and picture-perfect decor surround you at The Dutch.

Decadent delight

But it’s not just the restaurant that got a facelift – the menu did too. The new 70s-inspired menu also takes some direction from cuisines from across the globe, with touches of Asian, Moroccan, East-African and European food infused into charmingly delicious meals. My recommendations include the Gnocchi Gorgonzola and the Lentil Fritters. Don’t forget, though, The Dutch boasts quite an extensive bar facility, so you can order a local craft beer or exquisite cocktail knowing that it’ll come to your table perfectly prepared.

That’s entertainment

The events calendar is pretty full at The Dutch, with live music, comedians and DJs taking to the stage. The team have now also made it possible for you to check out upcoming events and book your seat for a special event through their website. Plan your weekend around The Dutch’s calendar and you’ll be highly entertained and well fed.

A final word

The Dutch is open from Tuesday through to Saturday, with tapas served from 3pm to 7pm. You usually won’t need to book a table for your afternoon cocktail, but reserving your spot is essential for dinner, which starts at 7pm, and for the live entertainment on offer, which starts at 10pm.
