4) JOBURG ART

Strange Fruit

Stevenson Gallery, September 1 to October 14

In this solo exhibition Barthélémy Toguo addresses racialised violence. The title of the exhibition is taken from the song recorded by Billie Holiday in 1939. The lyrics describing black bodies in the aftermath of lynching are a protest against racism, drawing attention to it as a corruption of nature that culminates in death. Visit stevenson.info for more information.

5) JOBURG STREET STORIES

Izithombe 2094

Twilsharp Studios, Gordon Road, Bertrams, until September 7

A site-specific play performed in Bertrams and based on the stories of its residents, with a small cast of professional actors performing alongside local participants. Starting and finishing at Twilsharp Studios - where there is a related exhibition - the play takes the form of a walking tour with live performances and installations along the way. Pay what you can.
