Mampara of the week: Qedani Mahlangu

18 September 2016 - 02:00 By Hogarth

Gauteng health MEC Qedani Mahlangu has set a new standard for official indifference to the plight of the less fortunate - in particular the mental health patients who fall under her 'care'.When news broke of the 36 patients who died after being sent out to NGOs, the MEC ducked for cover."I am not going to discuss in public the outcome of these things because we are beginning to encroach into a private doctor-patient relationship and that can't be correct," she said. Her homily further enraged families, who want answers about this latest neglect. In her rush to "save money" - as if that is ever a priority - her department sent patients to ill-prepared NGOs.Mahlangu was warned her move would bring disaster, to no avail. Anyone have a spare hearing aid for this Mampara?..
