Actresses Nomzamo Mbatha and Fulu Mugovhani have a lot in common. They spent the week at the Cannes Film Festival, they star in two of the most-talked-about local movies on circuit, they have roles in local soapies and now they will go head-to-head in thebest actress category at the African Movie Academy Awards on June 11. Tell Me Sweet Something, in which Mbatha plays the lead role of Moratiwa, and Ayanda, in which Mugovhani plays a young mechanic, have nine nominations each.Mbatha was "beyond elated and excited". She said: "Nine nominations at one of Africa's biggest industry awards is major. My first film role and an acting nomination to go with? That's God! Plus, I've been looking for an excuse to go to Nigeria."Mbatha, 25, who plays Thandeka in Isibaya, went toCannes thanks to the Jozi Film Festival, and hobnobbed with actor Chris Tucker, supermodel Chanel Iman and singer Usher Raymond."I really wanted to meet Robert de Niro but I was too intimidated."It's lovely to be in a space where everyone occupies a certain industry and there's mutual respect."For Mugovhani, who plays Princess Anzani in Scandal!, it was all business. She had taken her DVD showreels and business cards, which she dished out at the markets."On my first visit we never got a chance to walk the red carpet, but this time I did. It was incredible, I couldn't believe that this was possible for a little girl from Venda."..
