UNESCO adds new locations to its World Heritage sites In case you feel there are not enough World Heritage Sites on your must-see list, UNESCO has just added another five. These include the remains of the walled city at Philippi in Greece, the Antequera Dolmens site in Spain, the ruined city of Ani in northeastern Turkey, Gorham's Cave Complex on the Rock of Gibraltar and walled Stecci medieval tombstones and graveyard that span Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro and Serbia.story_article_left1The official additions were listed during a 10-day meeting in Turkey last month.Of the list, the Stecci - which date from the 12th to 16th centuries - are the newest. The caves on Gibraltar - which apparently show signs of having been lived in by Neanderthals over a 125,000-year period - are the oldest.Of all the sites, however, it is the ruined city of Ani that should get hearts racing. Perched on the edge of a cliff overlooking a deep ravine, it is the kind of place that would look perfect in Game of Thrones - a church gazing down into the abyss and dry, harsh landscape beyond. So beautiful, in fact, you wonder why we have not heard of it before.See unesco.org for details on these sites and more...
