Our travel adviser tackles your destination dilemmas, visa puzzles and itinerary ideas I will be travelling to India in December and have made enquiries about my itinerary and hotel bookings with a company called Incredible India Journeys.I found them on the Internet and checked their reviews but am still not sure about their reliability. How can I be sure that they are reputable? My other concern is payment to a company in another country. Do I pay in rands or their currency? They have given me their banking details but I was told by a friend that it must be a forex payment. Can you assist? - Vasantha MoodleyThis is a perfect example of the dilemma and risks implicit in making your own travel arrangements instead of trusting a travel agent. It may work, you may even save a little money but you have no guarantees. We cannot ever recommend or advise against any single tour company, unless they are known to the local market. If you work through a local agent they will source reliable suppliers and do all the work for you. I suggest you contact a respected local travel agent and ask them to quote you on the same holiday.Your payment could be made on a secure VCS system to protect your card details.Any private transactions on the Internet are at your own risk and once you have paid you have little recourse if the package is not what you expected. Payment is usually made by supplying your card details, which comes with some risks. As for reviews on internet suppliers, be aware that they're unlikely to feature unfavourable reviews on their own websites. You could search for reviews on sites such as Tripadvisor.Do you have a query for our travel expert? Send your question through to travelmag@sundaytimes.co.za..
