Protesters barricaded roads in Pretoria West with rocks and burning tyres on Thursday.
A truck was also set alight.
The protests led to several road closures in the area.
Police spokesperson Capt Kay Makhubele says the reason for the protest was unknown.
Some social media users, however, claim it was sparked by foreign nationals occupying houses in the area.
