Power outage continues in parts of Johannesburg
City Power is working on restoring power to parts of southern and western Johannesburg after the lights went off on Wednesday evening.
“Fordsburg/Orlando substation experienced a total loss of supply at around 6.30pm following the 88kV feeder tripping, plunging several areas into darkness, including Baragwanath Hospital and Rand Water Board, which is currently not pumping water,” City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said.
On Thursday morning they tweeted: “Mayfair feeder board remains off. The morning shift (starting at 6am) team will attend to the line fault. Affected areas: Mayfair, Crown, Langlaagte, Homestead Park and surrounds. No ETR [estimated time of return] as another team will attend to the outage.”
The following suburbs were affected by the power outage:
- Mondeor;
- Pennyville;
- Mayfair;
- Eldorado Park;
- Parts of Soweto;
- Nancefield;
- Nirvana;
- Eikenhof;
- Parts of Hursthill; and
- Industria.

UPDATE: Substation supplying Honeydew, Wilgerheuwel, Weltevreden Park, Strubens Valley, Radiokop, Allen's Nek and surroundings has tripped. Technicians dispatched to work on restorations. An ETR is not given yet. We will update as and when information becomes available.^BP
