China's Li Na urged Asia's male players to buck up their ideas and stop being lazy if they want to compete at tennis's top table like the country's women.

Australian Open semifinalist Li, who booked her place in the second round of Wimbledon on Tuesday with a 7-6 6-2 victory over South Africa's Chanelle Scheepers, has become a regular challenger at majors, along with Jie Zheng.

But China's male players are struggling to make an impact and none of them is in the top 300 in the world.

"I hope that some day the men can wake up and also play grand slams," Li said. "The men are lazy. They are maybe not as strong in the mind. They grew up without high aspirations.

"The women want to be in the top 30 or 40, or better, but men, they are happy if they are in the top 200."
