Thulani Serero scooped all the top prizes last night at the Premier Soccer League's awards function.

The 21-year-old Ajax Cape Town midfielder walked off with R600000 having been voted player of the season, footballer of the season, players' player and young player.

Serero soon leaves for Ajax Amsterdam, big brother club of the Cape Town outfit, who were pipped to the 2010/11 Premier League title by Orlando Pirates.

He follows in the footsteps of previous footballers of the year Teko Modise (twice) and Morgan Gould.

In a season when the Premier League champions were decided on the last day, Serero played 28 of Ajax's 30 league matches, missing only two because of injury and suspension.

He will join Dutch Eredivisie champions Ajax Amsterdam next season on a four-year contract, and is expected to play in the European Champions League in his first year in the Netherlands.

The attacking midfielder is also one of Bafana's future stars and is a member of the South African under-23 team, which is bidding to reach the Olympic Games in London next year.

Serero fought off strong competition in the voting for South African's best player. Andile Jali of Pirates was a strong contender along with Jimmy Tau of Kaizer Chiefs. Serero again faced Jali and also Kaizer Chiefs' Knowledge Musona in the voting for the players' player of the season accolade.

Jali was expected to at least win the player of the season award, with Serero scooping the footballer of the year, but the latter had a good enough season to win both.

Jali might have had the advantage by helping the Buccaneers win a rare three trophies (MTN8, Nedbank Cup and the league title) in one campaign.

As if three prizes were not enough for Serero, he also earned the young player award over Jali and Bloemfontein Celtic's Eric Matoho.

Jali did not walk away without some recognition. He was voted the best player in the cup, which the Buccaneers won on Saturday, beating Black Leopards 3-1.
