KEDIBONE

Thomas Gumede directs this local drama about a young woman leading a double life. At home in Soweto she’s a “good girl”, with a devoted childhood sweetheart . On the ruthless streets of Johannesburg she’s something else entirely. When her double life catches up with her, things spiral out of control.

Elle Fanning gives a memorably icy performance as Michelle Carter in this disturbing dramatisation of the true story of Carter’s involvement in the “texting suicide” of teen Conrad Roy, which led to a much-publicised case that shocked America.

NIGHT SKY 

Part elderly-couple love story, part sci-fi and part conspiracy theory thriller this strange mix of genres works best when it focuses on the touchingly real relationship of the couple at its centre, played with tender humanity by the Oscar-winning actors Sissy Spacek and JK Simmons. When the couple decide to investigate a chamber in their backyard that acts as an interplanetary portal, things take a decidedly weird and mixed turn.
