Designer Gert-Johan Coetzee got the opportunity of a lifetime after he was given the chance to dress Oprah Winfrey at the recent Global Citizen Festival.

Oprah appeared on stage at the festival wearing a flowing yellow silk kaftan, specially designed by Gert.

The waistband of the kaftan was decorated in traditional African hand-beading and Swarovski crystals.

She was joined by world leaders and celebrities as they vowed their commitment to end global poverty.

Just days prior to the show, Gert posted images of himself with Oprah where she visited him at his studio.

“It was such an honour to receive her, and to be given the opportunity to custom-make something really beautiful for her to wear,” said Gert.

Gert has previously mentored one of the students who graduated from the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls as part of his bursary programme.
