According to Western Cape Department of Education spokesperson Jessica Shelver the boy had gained access to a staircase behind the stage in the school hall‚ where he climbed to the ceiling.
“The school called paramedics‚ who reportedly declared the learner dead on their arrival. The police are investigating‚” said Shelver.
The incident occurred on Thursday during school hours.
Shelver said that the incident had left many pupils at the school traumatised and four counsellors from a neighbouring school would provide support to pupils and staff.
