The convicted, ailing Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset al-Megrahi was found in Tripoli in a comatose state and near death, according to CNN broadcaster on Sunday.

CNN showed footage of its reporter visiting in the elegant home of al-Megrahi, which was apparently built after his controversial release from Scottish prison to return to Libya to die in 2009.

The story showed al-Megrahi lying unresponsive in bed, with an oxygen mask over his nose and mouth and connected to a fluid drip.

His mother sat next to his bed, and his son told CNN that rebels who have liberated Tripoli had raided their house and taken away al-Megrahi’s medicines.

The wheelchair-bound Al-Megrahi was last seen in public in recent weeks, wheeled out to a rally in support of Libyan strongman Moamer Gaddafi, whose whereabouts are currently unknown.
