A group of engineers have unveiled a 3D printer which they say can print a house from mud according to a report.

World’s Advanced Saving Project, or WASP took inspiration from the potter wasp, which builds nests out of hair and mud to protect its young, to build a 3D printer that can print a house according to IFLScience.

They unveiled a scaled down version of it at the  Maker Faire Rome.

By extruding the mud the machine increases its surface area, making the house built from it habitable much sooner than if you have to wait for bricks to dry.

By putting in triangular shapes between the walls, they become stronger and bear more weight that using traditional methods while also using less material.

According to the report it can make homes that are up to three meters tall.

The group says they are looking to start building their first full house on the Island of Sardinia next year.
