WATCH: Drone footage shows Cape Town's desperate water situation

The drought in the Western Cape has hit the Theewaterskloof Dam very hard, as this drone footage shows.

According to the City of Cape Town as at 16 January the water level of the dam dropped to 36.8%, from 38.6% the week before. The video was taken on 17 January.

Mille Foto, the one who posted the video to YouTube explains that because the water level is so low, the dam could theoretically nearly run dry by the time the 2017 rains come.

"If the rainfall isn't heavy, next year could be even worse," Mille Foto said.

The dam would normally have a higher capacity than all the other dams supplying Cape Town put together.

Cape Town has currently enacted level three water restrictions.
