A girls' primary school in Bloemfontein has adopted a code of ethics for parents to be applied at all sports events, the Beeld reported yesterday.

The Laer Meisiesskool Oranje's sports field behaviour code for parents stipulates that they should not misbehave during sporting events.

The chairman of the school governing body, Waks Prinsloo, said the code was precautionary and not a reaction to an embarrassing incident.

The code states that parents may not get involved in physical violence, libel or abusive language, or gesture indecently during sporting events. Neither may they react in an "unbecoming" way to a referee's decisions .

The code directs parents to practise self-composure, respect, courtesy and tolerance towards each other, teachers and pupils.
