Disaster management teams started mopping up operations in Kliptown on Monday, after residents' homes were flooded in heavy rain, said Johannesburg emergency services.
"Water levels have subsided in Kliptown. Relief teams are already busy as the weather is expected to be warmer from today [Monday]," said spokesman Robert Mulaudzi.
On Saturday, 136 people were left homeless when their shacks were destroyed by floods. They were taken to the Khayalethu care centre. No one was injured.
Mulaudzi said provincial authorities were expected to relocate the residents to another area.
"The flooded area is a low-lying area and prone to flooding. It is up to the provincial authorities to find a suitable place for the residents."
Several motorists and passengers had to be rescued when they were trapped on flooded roads in Soweto at the weekend.
In Diepkloof, two houses were struck by lightning, but no one was injured.
Elsewhere in Johannesburg, flooding was reported on the M2 highway.
